Spiral Seam Flat Oval Duct

Construction: Flat oval ducts are created by winding a metal strip around a cylindrical mandrel to make a spiral shape, just like round spiral ducts. On the other hand, flat oval ducts have a flattened oval cross-section because the mandrel’s form is elliptical rather than circular. Next, a continuous seam is created by joining the metal strip’s edges longitudinally.

Material: Stainless steel, aluminium, or galvanised steel are commonly used to make spiral seam flat oval ducts, depending on specifications like cost, durability, and resistance to corrosion.

Sizes: To meet a range of airflow needs and space limitations, flat oval ducts are available in a number of sizes. The equivalent round diameter (ERD), or the diameter of a round duct having the same cross-sectional area as the flat oval duct, is commonly used to specify the dimensions of flat oval ducts. ERDs that are 4 inches, 6 inches, 8 inches, 10 inches, 12 inches, and bigger are common sizes.

Smooth Interior: Flat oval ducts, like round spiral ducts, usually feature a smooth interior surface that reduces pressure drops and airflow resistance.

Installation: Compared to conventional rectangular ductwork, spiral seam flat oval ducts are comparatively lightweight and simple to install. They can be hung and supported in a variety of ways and placed above ground, below ground, or inside walls and ceilings. Elbows, reducers, and branches are examples of flat oval duct fittings that are provided to make routing and connecting to other duct components easier.

Applications: In HVAC systems for both commercial and industrial buildings, spiral seam flat oval ducts are utilised to distribute conditioned air. Depending on what the system needs, they can be used for exhaust, return, or supply air. For applications requiring a low-profile duct design or where space is at a premium, flat oval ducts are especially well-suited.
